Authentic Lucknowi Chikankari is made to last, but only if it is cared for correctly. A fine chikankari kurta, Anarkali, saree, gharara, palazzo set, or dupatta is not ordinary clothing. It carries delicate hand embroidery, premium fabric, and detailed finishing that deserve proper attention.
The first rule is simple: avoid harsh washing. Most luxury hand embroidered chikankari pieces should be dry cleaned, especially those with mukaish, zari, sequins, beads, or delicate fabrics like georgette, organza, Chanderi, and tissue silk.
For lighter cotton or muslin chikankari, gentle hand washing in cold water with mild detergent is safer. Never wring the fabric aggressively. Let it dry naturally in shade, away from strong direct sunlight that can weaken threads and fade softness.
Storage matters just as much. Always keep chikankari clothing folded carefully in breathable cotton covers, not plastic. Heavy embroidery should not be crushed under weight. Dupattas and sarees should be refolded occasionally to prevent permanent creasing.
Ironing should always be done on low heat, preferably from the reverse side or with a soft cloth placed over the embroidery.
At Fiza Chikan, we believe true luxury is also about longevity. Good chikankari should stay beautiful for years, not just one season.
